The rolling mud hills found on the edge of Death Valley in a town called Tecopa provide some of the most stunning vignettes in the area. During the late Pliocene and early Pleistocene, a large lake covered the entire Tecopa basin. Over millions of years, the lake receded, leaving behind lacustrine mudstone, conglomerate, volcanic ash, and shoreline accumulations of tufa. At sunset and through the blue hour, photographing these hills will deliver pleasant, subtle, and soft colors, only accentuated by the rising full moon.
