Carrying a camera while riding bikes is a big part of what we do over here at The Radavist. As you might imagine, we've got a lot of ideas surrounding the best way to carry a camera on the bike and through almost 19 years experience in doing so, we put all those ideas into a bag with our friends at Realm.
This represents the most secure and minimal camera toting setup we've used. Taking Realm's Cross-body bag, we added padding, pockets, a sternum strap, with plenty of space for a mirrorless or DSLR camera. In fact, this bag fits a Canon R5 and 70-200 lens!
John has been using various prototypes of this bag for a few years now. He and Hanson from Realm worked on dialing in the silhouette to make it a perfect cross-body or hip bag, depending on your riding style.
It's not just for on-the-bike riding, either. Use this bag as a day pack for errands or sightseeing while traveling or just to carry your camera around for a day. It's secure, stable, and is small enough to fit under a rain jacket if it rains.
The biggest difference between this bag and others we've used is that it is wider, doesn't protrude a lot from the back, and you can really cinch down on it to make it stable while riding.
Our first run of these bags features a natural, undyed X-Pac outer with hi-vis safety orange on the inside to make it easy to find your goods. We added our Radavist Jackal to the underside and hi-vis orange zipper pulls.
Knowing how important it is to keep your camera and your body safe in the event of a crash, there is extra padding on the back of the bag and additional padding on the inside.
We wanted this bag to look great as new but to carry a nice patina from muddy rides. If you prefer to keep it natural-colored, some Oxy Clean or vinegar and baking soda should restore it to its original palette.
